Offensive Battle Concludes Series Split With APU

Warriors split the series with Azusa Pacific; Jessup will continue the road trip against Concordia Irvine on Monday and Tuesday in Irvine

AZUSA, Calif. – The bats came out hot for both the Warriors of Jessup and the Cougars of Azusa Pacific on the final day of a four-game conference series. The Saturday games ended in final scores of 7-4, Jessup losing in game one and winning in game two 7-5 to conclude the APU series matchup in a series split.

Jessup is 20-16 overall and 12-7 in PacWest conference play. The Warriors are in fourth place in the PacWest standings, while Azusa Pacific is right in front of them in third place.

Jessup collected a total of 10 hits in game one. The Warriors got on the board at the top of the second inning after Madisyn Leffle singled down the left field line. Asuza Pacific committed an error, each scoring one run.

The Cougars responded just three outs later to tie the game at two. Jessup would again regain the lead in the fifth with a one-run double coming from Reagann Hoblit. Just an inning later, Jessup would add another run in the sixth to take the lead 4-2.

Unfortunately, big hits from APU and errors on the Warriors' end resulted in Azusa putting up five runs in the bottom of the sixth to give them the lead and eventually the final score of 7-4 to take game one.

Alexandria Himes started in the circle game one, tossing all seven innings for the Warriors. The righty allowed nine hits, seven runs (two earned), and one walk. RBIs came from the bats of Madisyn Leffle, Sarah Giles, and Reagann Hoblit

Game two resulted in a final score of 7-5, but this time in favor of the Warriors. Big bats came up and down the lineup for the Warriors, with another nine hits tallied in game two, for 19 on the day.

In the first inning, a one-run single from Maddy Ybarra got on the Warrior's board. The Warriors would score again in the second inning on a wild pitch, scoring 2-0. The Warriors put up a three spot in the fourth inning and another run in the fifth to give the Warriors some cushion heading into the last two innings of the game.

Azusa didn't back down quietly as they crossed three runs across the plate to shrink the Warrior lead going into inning seven. A triple from Hannah Aguilar and a blooper single from Lili Deanda added an insurance run for the Warriors in the top of the seventh to give them the lead 7-5.

The pitching duo of Bella MacFarlane and Alexandria Himes shut down the Cougars in the seventh to conclude the game with a victorious score of 7-5. The right-handed starter MacFarlane gave up six hits and four runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Himes tossed two innings in relief, surrendering one hit and striking out one.

The Warriors will continue their SoCal road trip. They are scheduled to take on the PacWest leaders of Concordia Irvine on Monday and Tuesday for a four-game series.
