FULLERTON, Calif. – Jessup is winless no more in tennis following Tuesday's trip to Hope International. With a 4-3 victory at the Fullerton Tennis Center, Jessup's women's tennis program picked up win number one of the season, highlighting a day that saw two matches.
Both the men and women were in action on Tuesday. The men's match ended with the Warriors on the losing end of a 5-2 finish.
Jessup and Hope International have experience with one another as the two schools were conference rivals in the GSAC before Jessup left for Division II and the PacWest this year. Tuesday was the tenth meeting in women's tennis between the Warriors and Royals, and HIU came into the day leading the series 9-0.
The Royals won the doubles point after taking two of three. The duo of
Angel Cody and
Sophia Serdichenko were victorious in their match, 6-4. Both Cody (6-1, 6-3) and Serdichenko (6-4, 6-4) would add wins in singles action, doing so in straight sets.
Briana Smith picked up a win from the top position, her first of the season. The first set extended to a tiebreaker, but the second set was smoother, with Smith winning 6-1.
Rylie Maloney (6-0, 6-3) picked up the other win in straight sets for the Warriors.
In the men's match, the duo of
Vadim Francois and
Caleb Poling came out on top in their doubles match, 6-3. HIU took the other two matches to win the point. Poling (6-0, 6-4) later added a win in singles play.
Tanner Sitanggang grabbed the other Jessup point, doing so in a three-set battle.
Men's Tennis will be in action tomorrow when they visit Westmont for a 1 p.m. match in Santa Barbara. Women's Tennis will compete on Saturday when they host Biola at Sierra College.
