IRVINE, Calif. – The beginning of a new series on Friday saw the Warriors meet up with Concordia for the first time in nearly a decade. Looking to climb back in the race for a PacWest title, Jessup got off on the wrong foot as Concordia took both games to guarantee at least a split on Saturday.
Jessup, who was tied for first place following the first game of their series a week ago, now sits at 21-13 in conference action. The Warriors have lost five straight.
The Warriors saw a friendly face make his return to the lineup on Friday as infielder
Kayde Iranon returned after three weeks away with an injury. Iranon wasted little time getting back to work as he hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning of game one.
Iranon's blast was Jessup's second of the inning as
Nick Poss also left the yard.
Jessup's three-run lead quickly went by the wayside as CUI posted two in the first and four in the seconds. The Golden Eagles added to their lead with two more in the fourth. An Iranon sac fly stopped the bleeding, and then an inning later,
Gabe Harris left the yard with a solo shot, but CUI responded with three in the eighth to pull away.
Loren Iwata took the loss after five runs over two innings.
Tyler Lamperti logged five innings in relief.
Evan Williams pitched the eighth inning.
Game two was another one for CUI as the Golden Eagles tagged Jessup for six runs in the first. The CUI lead was 7-0 before the Warriors posted their first run in the third off a
Tony Otis RBI single.
Otis was the bright spot in the 8-1 loss as he went 4-for-4 at the dish.
Eric Vasser took the loss after allowing six runs in just a third of an inning.
Caleb Markwith held down the fort for the final 5.2 in relief.
The Warriors and Golden Eagles will resume the series tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.
