Home-and-Home Series Sees a Split to Start

Beasley pieced together five hits on the day; Jessup and Dominican will resume the series tomorrow from San Rafael

LINCOLN, Calif. – A home-and-home series with the Dominican Penguins kicked off on Friday, with the first doubleheader taking place at Foskett Regional Park. After game one went the way of the Penguins, Jessup settled down to grab game two and send the series to the Bay Area tied.

The Warriors entered the series on a five-game win streak. They leave Lincoln with an 18-9 record in PacWest action.

Game one was seemingly all Penguins from the start as they tagged Jessup with eight runs in the second inning. The scoring continued in the third with two more as Jessup quickly found themselves in an 11-1 hole.

Jessup got a run in the second thanks to an RBI single from Malia Ishii. Maddy Ybarra added a sac fly in the fifth, but it was not enough as the Penguins took the contest 11-2 in five innings.

Bella MacFarlane pitched all five innings and was handed the loss.

Dominican again, were the ones to throw the first punch in game two as they posted a run in the third and then two more in the fourth. The Warriors settled down in the bottom half of the fourth as Sarah Giles drove in Ybarra with a single up the middle. An error later allowed Reagann Hoblit to score in the inning to make it 3-2.

Jessup tied the game in the fifth with Rebekah Beasley's RBI double. Beasley later scored on an RBI single from Ybarra.

The fifth inning saw five runs cross home for the Warriors. Ybarra scored on an error. Hoblit drove in Giles with a sac fly, and Liliana DeAnda wrapped up the rally with an RBI single to plate Aaliyah Pineda.

Beasley had the hot bat in game two as she finished 3-for-4. She totaled five hits across the doubleheader.

The series will shift to San Rafael tomorrow as the Warriors and Penguins resume play from Penguin Field. The doubleheader will start at noon.
