SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The series shifted to San Rafael on Saturday as the Warriors and Penguins battled after a split in Lincoln on Friday. A late comeback stole a win for the Penguins to start the day, and the momentum stayed in the home dugout in game two as Dominican swept the day.
Jessup now sits 18-11 in PacWest action. The Warriors are 26-20 overall on the season.
The fourth inning was Jessup's offensive outburst in game one. Dominican retired the first nine batters in order to start the game but finally, Jessup settled in with a
Rebekah Beasley walk and a
Madisyn Leffle infield single. The two later scored, with Beasley coming home on a
Maddy Ybarra single and Leffle coming home on a
Kylie Nunes sac fly.
Sarah Giles added to the scoring in the sixth with her 11th home run of the season.
The Warriors held their 3-1 lead into the seventh inning, placing them three outs from a win. Dominican had other thoughts, beginning with a double to drive in a run. The next batter singled to drive in the tying run, but then an error allowed the winning run to score, ending the game with a Penguin walk-off.
Jazlyn Villavicencio took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) across 1.1 innings in relief.
Alexandria Himes allowed one run on three hits in her five-inning start.
Game two would see no offensive outbursts from the Warriors, but it did see many from the Penguins. Dominican scored four in the third, one in the fourth, and then three runs in the fifth, bringing the game to an early end. It was the second time this weekend Dominican ended a game in five innings.
Bella MacFarlane was the losing pitcher after allowing four runs on five hits across three innings.
The Warriors will be home for five of their next seven games as the regular season concludes next week. Hawaii Pacific will be first up as they make their appearance in Lincoln on Tuesday and Wednesday.
