Warriors Evade Shark Attack with Tuesday Sweep

Himes tossed a three-hit shutout and faced one over the minimum; Pineda went 3-for-4 in the finale

LINCOLN, Calif. – The bad taste lingering from the weekend in San Rafael has been washed away thanks to a Tuesday sweep of Hawaii Pacific. With the final week of the regular season beginning, Jessup used both their bats and their arms to grab both games of the doubleheader.

Jessup is now 28-20 overall on the season, with their record in PacWest action moving to 20-11.

The right arm of Alexandria Himes carried the Warriors to victory in game one. Himes won her ninth game of the season as the Warriors claimed a 2-0 victory.

Himes threw a complete game shutout in which she allowed no walks and just three hits. She hit one HPU batter and struck out three. She was also aided by her defense that turned three double plays as Himes ended the game facing 22 batters, one over the minimum.

Two of the double plays Jessup turned were performed single-handedly by Sarah Giles. Twice, Giles snagged a line drive and easily stepped on first to get the force out. The final double play came with one out in the seventh as the 5-4-3 around-the-horn play ended the game.

Aaliyah Pineda drove in the winning run with a sac fly in the fourth. The Warriors added a second run when Kylie Nunes reached on a bunt single that scored Maddy Ybarra, who raced around third while HPU was attempting to get Nunes out at first.

The second game of Tuesday's doubleheader was more of an offensive performance as Jessup claimed a 7-3 victory.

Pineda kept her bat going with a two-run single in the first, and the Warriors added to the scoring in the second with an RBI double from Liliana DeAnda, who later scored on an error. The Warriors tacked on another run in the fifth off an HPU error. Ybarra tripled in the sixth to plate a run, and then she showed off her speed to score on a Giles sac fly that barely left the infield.

The Warriors racked up 11 hits in the win. Pineda finished 3-for-4. Every starter finished with at least one base hit.

Bella MacFarlane allowed three runs on eight hits in her complete game. MacFarlane is now 12-7 on the season.

Jessup and HPU will return to Foskett tomorrow as the series concludes with a single game at noon.
