LINCOLN, Calif. – The Warriors began their final home series of the season on Thursday as they hosted Azusa Pacific at McBean Stadium, securing a 5-2 win over the Cougars. The win continues Jessup's hot play at home as they improve to 15-4 at McBean Park.
Thursday's win puts the Warriors at 27-15 on the season. Jessup is now 24-13 in PacWest action, placing them four games out of first place.
Jessup was led by a pair of two-run homers including one from senior
Nick Poss in the third and another from senior
Drew Andrews in the sixth. Poss and Andrews have both hit six home runs this season for the Warriors.
The Warriors led early following the Poss homer and brilliant pitching by freshman
Loren Iwata. Azusa Pacific tied it in the fifth with a two-run shot of their own by Will Medina. The Andrews home run was just one of four hits in the sixth inning that also featured an RBI double by
Jack Grant who is third on the team with 29 RBIs on the year.
Iwata took a no-decision after allowing two runs on three hits across 5.2 innings.
It was a great night for the Jessup bullpen as
Ryan Stone,
Jake Morell and
Nolan Thebiay allowed just two base runners in the final 2.1 innings. Stone earned his second win while Thebiay got the save, his seventh this season.
The Warriors will play games two and three of the series tomorrow back at McBean Stadium starting at 1 p.m. Both contests are scheduled for seven innings.
