Ott’s Walk-Off Adds Thunder to a Stormy Kansas City Day

Dominic Ott hit a walk-off home run on the first pitch of the ninth inning; Evan Williams struck out three in two scoreless innings in relief

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – With lightning illuminating the Kansas City skyline throughout Sunday night and into Monday morning, Monday's action at the NCCAA World Series was pushed up to avoid the additional incoming weather. With the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City awaiting Jessup, the Warriors brought thunder to a gloomy day as a walk-off blast kept Jessup in the winner's bracket.

Deadlocked at two, Dominic Ott was scheduled to lead off the bottom of the ninth. Coming into the plate appearance 0-for-3, Ott swung at the first pitch and sent the ball over the fence in right centerfield to keep his team on the winning side of the bracket.

Ott's blast snapped a seven-inning scoreless streak as Jessup put up their two runs in the last of the first.

Those two runs came off the bat of Nick Poss as he hit a towering two-run blast. Poss has driven in six runs during his two games in Kansas City.

Jessup's pitching produced a solid day for the second game in a row, starting with right-hander Diego Chavez, who logged six innings on the mound. Chavez allowed two runs on six hits while receiving a no-decision. Joey Miller entered in relief to pitch a scoreless seventh.

Head coach Trevor Paine, who won his 199th game on Monday, turned to Evan Williams in the eighth. Williams punched out the first two batters he saw looking. The sophomore right-hander threw two scoreless innings on the way to his sixth win of the season.

Aiding the Jessup pitching was the Warriors' defense. Jessup turned four double plays. In the win, including one in the top of the ninth to take the potential go-ahead run off the base path.

The Warriors will again wait and see who their next opponent is as the action in Kansas City has been brought to a standstill. Moments after Ott's walk off, play at the Urban Youth Academy was seized due to lightning in the area. A tornado warning has also been issued in the Kansas City area.

Jessup will play the winner of the Fort Lauderdale-Mission game, which was halted in the third inning. There are also two elimination games to be played before Jessup's next contest, which was initially scheduled for 11 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday.
