KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A 6-0 loss to the Mission Pioneers on Tuesday afternoon has placed the Warriors in the loser's bracket of the NCCAA World Series. Now, with their backs against the wall, Jessup will need to come out swinging on Wednesday and win two to force a winner-take-all championship game on Thursday.
The Warriors managed seven hits and were walked six times on Tuesday. Their best chance at scoring came in the top of the third when
Cody Antone's single loaded the bases with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.
Mission pitchers combined for five strikeouts in their winning effort.
Jessup turned to freshman left-hander
Loren Iwata to start their third game of the World Series. Iwata lasted four innings as he was hit with five earned runs off eight hits. Mission scored their first run in the bottom of the first and then added two more in the second. A two-run home run in the fifth ended Iwata's outing.
Tyler Lamperti was first out of the bullpen, and he produced two perfect innings with three punchouts.
Jake Morell allowed one run, a solo home run, in his one-inning stint.
Tyler Moore tossed a scoreless eighth.
Tony Otis and
Cole Hazel were the two Warriors to total multiple hits in the loss. Both finished 2-for-4.
Drew Andrews worked three walks, and
Dominic Ott reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.
The loss on Tuesday changes Jessup's path to a championship. The Warriors will have to win on Wednesday morning to extend the season to another game on Wednesday afternoon. Two wins on Wednesday will force a winner-take-all championship game on Thursday.
Jessup's first opponent on Wednesday will be either Oakland City or Concordia Ann Arbor. The two schools are currently playing an elimination game.
All of the action on Wednesday will be streamed live on the NCCAA Network.
