ROCKLIN, Calif. – After seven years as the head coach of Jessup's Cross Country and Track & Field programs, Jeff Magley's tenure with the Warriors has ended. The Warriors won five individual national championships to pair with a 2021 GSAC title during Magley's time in Rocklin.
Vice President of Athletics Lance Von Vogt offered these words on Magley. "Coach Magley has been a faithful leader and mentor within Jessup Athletics, consistently modeling Christ-centered coaching and care for his athletes. Under his guidance, our programs have celebrated incredible milestones. His legacy will be seen not only in the record books, but in the lives he helped shape."
In his seven years, Magley coached the Warriors to five individual national championships. The first two occurred in Gulf Shores, AL, at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship when distance runner Bailey Cossentine won the marathon in 2019 and 2021.
This spring, more national championships were won during Jessup's inaugural visit to South Carolina for the NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship. Thrower
Julia Pisenti stood on top of the podium in the discus and javelin, and multi-event athlete
Jocelyn Pedretti claimed victory in the heptathlon.
Pisenti was also the NAIA runner-up in the discus in 2024.
As a team, Magley brought to Jessup the first conference championship in 2021 when the Women's Track & Field won the GSAC Championship on the campus of Magley's alma mater, Westmont College. Magley was named the 2021 GSAC Coach of the Year to go with the championship season.
In seven years, Magley coached the Warriors to eight All-American finishes at NAIA championship events and 13 All-American finishes with the NCCAA. He saw athletes qualify for national championships in cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field. He also coached five winners of Jessup's highest athletics honor, the Presidential Medallion: Amanda Barthelmes (2019), Vendela Williams (2020), Bailey Cossentine (2021), Ryan Hanks (2022), and
Azalea Prince (2024).
"We thank Jeff for his incredible investment in our Track and Field and Cross Country program and wish him continued success and blessings ahead," concluded Von Vogt.
Jessup University is in the midst of a national search to find the next head coach for its Cross Country and Track & Field programs. The Warriors wrapped up their first season within NCAA Division II and the PacWest Conference in 2025.
