ROCKLIN, Calif. — Jessup University Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Garrett Seawell as the new Head Coach for Cross Country and Assistant Coach in Track & Field distance programs. Seawell, a proven leader with an impressive track record of success both on and off the field, brings a decade's worth of experience in collegiate coaching to the Warriors' athletic department.
Seawell is very familiar with the local area as he was born and raised in both Roseville and Rocklin. Before coaching, he was a student-athlete at Woodcreek High in Roseville. He then went on to be a collegiate student-athlete first at American River College, and then continued his athletic and educational career at Arizona State University. Coach Garrett Seawell returns to his hometown and not only has the support of his newfound colleagues at Jessup but also his wife and two-year-old son alongside him.
"I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Cross Country and Track & Field programs at Jessup University," said Coach Seawell. "I am very excited to lead the distance runners in cross country and track to go after their goals and be a guide for whatever they need."
Seawell joins the Warriors after a highly successful tenure at American River College, where he served as both Head Coach and Assistant Coach for Men's Cross Country and Track & Field. During his time there, his teams achieved remarkable results, including a Cross Country State Championship, four Regional Championships, and nine Conference Championships. His Track & Field teams also secured six Regional Championships and eight Conference titles.
Beyond the impressive team accomplishments, Seawell's athletes excelled individually. He coached over 20 All-Americans in Cross Country and more than 30 All-Americans in Track & Field. He also successfully assisted over 60 athletes in receiving scholarships to continue their athletic and academic careers at four-year universities. Under his guidance, the Cross Country team maintained an average GPA of 3.46 over the last decade, with the Track & Field team holding a 3.12 GPA, demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence.
Seawell holds a Master of Science in Kinesiology from California Baptist University and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Arizona State University. He will be responsible for all aspects of the program, including recruiting, training, budget management, and providing biblically based leadership for the teams.
Jessup University is excited for the addition of Coach Seawell to continue building the foundation of this program, fostering a championship culture, and mentoring our student-athletes to excel in competition. His commitment to developing student-athletes not only athletically, but also academically and spiritually, aligns perfectly with Jessup's Christ-centered mission.
Seawell continued, "I know Jessup is a sleeping giant when it comes to Cross Country and Track & Field, and with the transition to NCAA DII, I know we can build this program to compete at the national level sooner than later. We want to build the program to not only be successful in races, but also be a bigger part of the local running community. I am honored and blessed to be able to lead the distance runners at my hometown university as we begin our journey as a full NCAA DII member!"
Jessup University looks forward to the future of its Cross Country and Track & Field programs under Coach Seawell's leadership and is confident that he will continue the tradition of excellence.
Seawell will begin his duties as a Warrior immediately to start preparing for the 2025-2026 season.
