Warriors Fall in Hard-Fought Match Against Menlo

A Late Goal Decides Defensive Battle at Warrior Field

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Jessup women's soccer team displayed a resilient and determined performance on Tuesday afternoon, ultimately falling to Menlo College in a tight 1-0 contest at Warrior Field. In a match defined by defensive resolve and tactical pressure, a late-game goal proved to be the decisive factor.

Both teams engaged in a strategic battle from the opening whistle, with opportunities at a premium. Jessup's defense, anchored by a strong backline, effectively contained the Menlo attack for the majority of the game. Goalkeeper Celeste Fernandez was a standout, making three key saves to keep the Warriors in the fight. The team's collective effort limited the Oaks' ability to capitalize on their shots on goal.

Offensively, Jessup created its own chances, consistently pushing forward to test the Menlo defense. The Warriors' attack registered a single shot on goal, a moment of quality that forced a key save from the Menlo goalkeeper. Despite a handful of other promising runs and solid passing, the Warriors were unable to break through. The game remained deadlocked for nearly 82 minutes, a testament to the competitive spirit and defensive discipline on both sides.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 82nd minute when Menlo's Lyla Devereaux found the back of the net, assisted by Trinity Brooks. This single, well-placed goal proved to be the difference-maker, as Jessup's late-game push for an equalizer was met with a stout Menlo defense.

Despite the loss, the Warriors showed significant promise in their competitive tenacity and defensive organization, demonstrating a capacity to challenge strong opponents. The team will look to build on this performance as they continue their season. "I'm proud of our team's effort and fight today," said head coach Amsalu Fantahun. "Menlo is a tough opponent, and our defensive shape held strong for most of the match. We'll learn from this and come out even stronger in our next game."

Jessup will have a quick turnaround as they prepare for their next match on Saturday, September 13, against Cal State East Bay at Pioneer Stadium. Jessup will look to bounce back from the tough loss and build on their strong defensive performance as they continue their non-conference schedule.
