Despite a second-half comeback, Jessup couldn't hold on, losing 4-3 to Menlo after a late game-winner.

Box Score ATHERTON, CA - In a "rollercoaster of a game," the Jessup Warriors men's soccer team suffered a tough 4-3 defeat to the Menlo Oaks at Wunderlich Field on September 11, 2025, falling to a 1-1-1 record for the season. Despite a spirited comeback in the second half, a late goal from the Oaks decided the fate for the Warriors.

The Warriors came out firing, with Aidan Vangelatos scoring the first goal of the match just over two minutes in.  Head coach Greg Lazaga commented that the team had "a lot of great momentum early off our transition goal". However, Menlo quickly countered, scoring three goals to take a commanding 3-1 lead by halftime. "Menlo countered and we started to play hesitantly," Lazaga noted.

Jessup came out for the second half with renewed purpose. Jesus Rios scored at the 48:10 mark, and the Warriors were aided by an own goal from Menlo at 70:35, which tied the match. Lazaga was proud of the team's response, stating, "Our guys are gamers, though. They proved that by coming back, sticking with the game plan to tie."

Despite the tie, the Warriors were unable to hold on. A late goal by Menlo's David Stuber at 86:33 sealed the victory for the Oaks. Lazaga reflected on the missed opportunity, saying, "We had a great opportunity to win with 5 minutes left. Unfortunately, we let one in at the end. It's got to be a learning lesson for us. Full 90 to finish! I think this group has it in them."

Despite the loss, the Warriors' Alonso Ruiz made four saves in the match, and Jessup's offense managed seven total shots and five shots on target.

Jessup Warriors men's soccer team will look to bounce back on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, when they host the CSU Monterey Bay Otters at Warrior Field. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 PM PDT kickoff.
