Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Warriors Split Day, Finish Strong with Comeback Victory

A day of mixed results ends on a high note for Jessup women's volleyball.

ARCATA, CA - Jessup University women's volleyball had a mixed but ultimately successful day, splitting a doubleheader at the Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic on Friday, September 12.

In the day's first match, the Warriors fell to Oklahoma Christian in three straight sets with scores of 20-25, 19-25, and 18-25. Despite the loss, several players delivered solid performances. Kemyah Harris had 5 kills and 12 assists. Other key contributors included Eliana Sheridan (6 kills) and Megan Conway (4 kills). As a team, Jessup had 35 kills and 33 assists, but struggled with a .105 hitting percentage.

The second game, however, was a different story. The Warriors bounced back to defeat Cal Poly Humboldt in a thrilling five-set match (17-25, 25-16, 25-17, 22-25, 15-9). Jessup dropped the first set before mounting a comeback to take sets two and three. Cal Poly Humboldt managed to extend the match with a fourth-set victory, but Jessup sealed the win with a dominant performance in the deciding fifth set. The offense was explosive, led by Addie Hamilton's 19 kills, Kemyah Harris's 17 kills, and Eliana Sheridan's 17 kills. Kenzie Carpenter was the primary facilitator, racking up an impressive 51 assists. The team's collective effort resulted in 64 kills and a much-improved .248 hitting percentage.

After the win, Head Coach Kyle Steele said, "Good to get another win verses a CCAA school as we are still trying to find our identity. Proud of the way we battled through rough stretches and stayed composed." He went on to commend the young roster, "We are so young it's nice to watch them improve day by day so much."

Looking ahead, the Warriors will continue their tournament action on Saturday, September 13, at Lumberjack Arena with two more matches:
vs. Oklahoma Baptist University at 2:00 PM
vs. Chico State University at 7:00 PM
