IRVINE, Calif. – Jessup University Men's Basketball was unable to hold off a late surge from Concordia University Irvine, falling on Thursday night, 63-73.
Though Jessup trailed for portions of the first half, the Warriors showcased their depth and resilience inside CU Arena. The Jessup bench was the primary engine of the offense, outscoring the Golden Eagles' reserves by a massive 41-11 margin. Tom Parsons led the way with 12 points, while Wyatt Studer added 10 points in a high-energy performance off the pine.
The second half featured a gritty comeback from Jessup. After falling behind early, the Warriors' second unit ignited a run that erased the deficit. Jessup took the lead midway through the second half and held a narrow advantage late in the period as they looked to stun the home crowd. As Jessup was down one, Tamatoa Humbert nailed a three to put his team up with seven minutes remaining on the clock. However, the Golden Eagles responded with a 12-2 closing run, anchored by Macarhy Morris (19 points) and Marcellus Edwards (18 points).
Jessup's efficiency from the perimeter remained a bright spot, as the team shot 47.1% (8-of-17) from three-point range. Humbert knocked down two critical triples during the second-half surge, and Curro Segura chipped in 7 points and 4 assists to keep the offense moving.
While the Warriors won the bench battle, Concordia's dominance in the paint (38-20) and their ability to convert on free throws proved to be the difference. The Golden Eagles missed only one free throw all night (12-of-13), allowing them to salt the game away after regaining the lead in the final three minutes. With the loss, Jessup moves to 9-10 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
The Warriors continue their Southern California road trip this Saturday, January 31, as they travel to La Mirada to take on Biola University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
