Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Warriors Power Past Simpson in Four Sets

ROCKLIN, Calif. — The Jessup University men's volleyball team visited Redding to take on the Red Hawks for the second time this season defeating them in four sets, 3-1 (25-11, 25-20, 25-23, 25-16).

With the Warriors firing on all cylinders, the squad showcased their depth to put away a familiar opponent on their home floor. The Warriors came out of the gates swinging in the opening frame, setting a dominant tone right away. Setter Colin Marks quickly got the offense rolling, connecting with Jonas Müller for a thunderous early kill, 1-1. Moments later, Jan Lopuch set up Jacob Knudsen for a crucial strike, and Marks followed up by finding Owen Henning to keep the defense on its heels, 21-11. The aggressive and accurate attacking pushed the Warriors to a runaway 25-11 set-one win, where they hit a staggering .462 as a team.

After taking the second set 25-20, Jessup faced some adversity in the third frame. The Warriors manufactured early momentum-builders, including a sharp service ace from Riley Green, an ace by Müller, and a thumping kill by Riley Petesch off a feed from Green, 10-6. However, the visiting squad managed to battle back and squeeze out a 25-23 set win to extend the match. Jessup wasted no time regrouping in the fourth. The Warriors took control of the final frame, hitting an efficient .385 as a unit and pulled away for a 25-16 set victory to officially seal the match.

It was a stellar night across the box score for Jessup, with several individuals posting standout performances. Jonas Müller led the offensive charge with a match-high 16 kills to go along with nine digs and two service aces. Owen Henning and Jan Lopuch provided excellent support on the pins, tallying nine and eight kills. The offense was orchestrated masterfully by Colin Marks, who dished out a match-high 33 assists while also collecting three blocks, two aces, and six digs. Defensively, Logan Marks anchored the backline with a team-high 13 digs, while Henning, Marks, and Clement Osahon Jr. each recorded three blocks to stifle the opposing attack.

Head Coach Kyle Steele commented after the game, "Glad to get a win on the road with the Red Hawks who are playing well. Struggled through some adversity tonight but it is something we can build on and grow through." Coach Steele spoke about the key upcoming matches, "We are looking forward to the next eight games and trying to get a win against all of the top ten teams we play in the next few weeks to come."

Jessup men's volleyball will be back at Warrior Arena later this week as they host Pepperdine University on Friday, February 27th. First serve will be at 7:00 PM.
