LINCOLN, Calif. - Jessup baseball (8-3, 6-2 PacWest) split their Monday doubleheader against Concordia University Irvine (8-10, 6-4 PacWest) at McBean Park. The Warriors utilized a massive seventh-inning rally to take game one 8-1, before a 7-1 defeat in the seven-inning game two.
Game 1, 8-1
Game one featured a quiet start before the Warriors' offense erupted in the late innings to back up another strong performance on the mound. Concordia struck first in the top of the second inning when an RBI double to right field brought home the opening run, 1-0. The Warriors responded in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead. After Landyn Plaut singled and Cole Hazel drew a walk, catcher Matt Gonsalvez stepped up to the plate and laced a crucial two-run double into right-center field, putting Jessup ahead 2-1.
The game remained a tight 2-1 contest until the bottom of the seventh inning, where the Jessup bats caught fire to effectively put the game out of reach. Adam Reyes ignited the six-run frame by launching a solo home run to left field, 3-1. Later in the inning, Tony Otis drove a two-run single through the left side to score Jayden Montero and Hunter Hirayama. After Cody Antone scored on a throwing error, Quinton Hall delivered the final blow of the frame, blasting a two-run home run to left field to cap off the scoring at 8-1.
Diego Chavez (3-0) earned the win on the mound for the Warriors, continuing his excellent start to the 2026 campaign. Joey Guarienti and Landon Rowland provided stellar relief to close the door on CUI. Offensively, the Warriors tallied 11 hits. Tony Otis (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Cody Antone (2-for-3), and Landyn Plaut (2-for-4) all collected multi-hit games to pace the Jessup attack.
Game Two, 7-1
The second matchup of the afternoon presented a much different story, as Concordia University starting pitcher kept the Warriors off balance throughout 7.0 frames. The Golden Eagles starter tossed a complete-game, limiting the potent Jessup lineup to just two hits over seven innings.
CUI capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting to build an early lead. They scored an unearned run in the second inning and added another unearned run in the third to go up 2-0. Jessup manufactured their lone run of the contest in the bottom of the third. Jayden Montero drew a walk, stole second base, and advanced to third on a passed ball. Cody Antone then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Montero home, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
However, that was as close as the Warriors would get. CUI answered immediately with a solo home run in the top of the fourth to make it 3-1. The visitors then broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning, rallying for four runs to cement the 7-1 final score.
Starter Eric Vasser (0-1) took the loss for the Warriors after pitching 2.2 innings. Noah Souza provided 3.1 innings of work out of the bullpen, and Tyler Moore pitched a scoreless final frame. Tony Otis and Quinton Hall recorded the only two hits for Jessup in the quiet offensive showing.
