STOCKTON, Calif. - The Warriors men's golf team finished up their second event this week, competing at the D2 Visit Stockton Invite at The Reserve at Spanos.
The 36-hole event, played over two days, featured a field of over 100 players and 21 teams which created a great test for the Warriors. Thanks to the field's size, round one was suspended due to darkness, with the Warriors among the last teams to finish on the first day, posting a team score of 301, 13 over par. Freshman Jacobus Brakkee continued his strong play on the year, posting an even par 72. Junior Nick Chavarin was the Warriors second best first round score with a two-over 74, highlighted by back-to-back finishing birdies on the tough 17-18 finish stretch.
Round two, the Warriors found themselves T16 out of 21 teams to open the day. Brakkee once again found himself contributing with a final round 72, which included 6 birdies, finishing in T18. Chavarin continued his steady play after day one with a 75 to finish off the week in T39. Junior Braden Armstrong also finished in T39, shooting rounds of 76-73 and posting four birdies during the second round. Senior Daniel Johnson posted two over, 74, to help the Warriors, bouncing back after a first-round 79. Sophomore Paolo Castaeneda rounded out the Warriors' scoring with rounds of 82-79.
As a team, the Warriors moved up 4 spots in the final round, finishing in 12th out of 21 teams, and 4th out of 6 PacWest teams. At the top of the leader board individually, Rex Wilson from Western Washington finished in first at 5 under par. For the team leader board, the Thunderwolves of Colorado State Pueblo took home the team title at 9 under par.
The Warriors will come home for a short week, returning to action on the following Thursday and Friday, March 5th and 6th, in Morgan Hill, California. There, the team will compete in the RCA Electric Spring Invite at Coyote Creek Golf Club, hosted by Menlo College.
