Warriors Drop Opener in Hawaii to Sharks

02/28/26

Waipahu, HI – Jessup University Warriors baseball team (9-5, 7-4 PacWest) kicked off their road trip in Hawaii at Hawaii Pacific University (5-9, 3-6 PacWest) on Saturday afternoon, 10-6.

Fresh off of a series split against the Concordia Golden Eagles at McBean Park, the Warriors took to the islands to face off with the Sharks. Like many of their PacWest battles, it was an early offensive duel with both sides scoring in the first. Justin Tsukada walked for the first baserunner of the game and later scored from a fielder's choice, 1-0. HPU responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning with a four spot, 4-1.

Jessup did not surrender as the Warriors tallied three in the top of the second. The inning began with two consecutive hits from Adama Reyes and Hunter Hirayama. Both base runners profited off of multiple pass balls to cut the deficit in half, 4-2. Later in the inning, the big bat of Tony Otis stepped up to the plate to continue his successful start to the season. He laced a double to left field to bring in two runs and knot the score at four apiece, 4-4.

An inning later, HPU put five on the board which proved to be insurmountable for Jessup. The Warriors scored in the fourth from an Otis RBI knock and a RBI hit from Reyes in the seventh, 9-6. However, the Sharks added an insurance run in the eighth to win the game, 10-6.

Otis had another impressive day at the plate as he went 3-4, with three RBIs and a walk. Reyes earned an RBI from his 2-4 day, reached on a walk and scored a run. From his lone hit, Quinton Hall scored one of Jessup's runs. Diego Chavez began the game on the bump as he provided two frames and allowed eight hits. Loren Iwata came in for relief as he delivered 5.1 innings of one run ball. Landon Rowland came in for the final two outs of the night.

The Warriors look to bounce back tomorrow when they continue their series against Hawaii Pacific. First pitch will be at 4:00 PM (PST).
