Jessup Battles No. 17 Stanford in Historic MPSF Opener

Warriors signal arrival in the MPSF with a gritty showing against Stanford, highlighted by a marathon 30-28 second-set battle.

STANFORD, Calif. – In a historic night for the program, the Jessup University men's volleyball team (2-4, 0-1 MPSF) stepped onto one of the biggest stages in collegiate athletics Friday night, competing against No. 17 Stanford (2-6, 1-0 MPSF) in their first-ever Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) match at Burnham Pavilion, 0-3.

While the Warriors ultimately fell in a hard-fought three-set battle, 25-19, 30-28, 25-21, the performance served as a loud announcement that the first-year program can compete with the nation's elite. Jessup came out fearless in the opening frame, trading blows with the Cardinals. Behind the arm of Jan Lopuch and the net presence of Clement Osahon Jr., the Warriors nearly stole the first set before Stanford squeezed out a 25-19 win.

Undeterred, Jessup battled in the second set and were one point away from their first MPSF set win. Up 25-24, Jessup was at match point but Stanford prolonged the set. A kill by Jonas Müller put the Warriors up 26-25 but the team could not close it out as the Cardinals responded. Again, Jan Lopuch put the visiting team up but Stanford would go on to extend the set. The Cardinals took the second set but Jessup showed determination and grit against the Division I program. In a final and consistently aggressive set, the Warriors fought in the till the end but ultimately dropped the meeting, 3-0.

The Warriors' statistical effort was spearheaded by Jan Lopuch, who led the team with 11 kills to continue his successful start to the 2026 campaign. Supporting the attack, Jacob Knudsen hammered home 8 kills while Jonas Müller chipped in seven of his own. Defensively, libero Logan Marks anchored the back row with a match-high 8 digs. Running the offense was Colin Marks, who orchestrated the attack with 33 assists and added two block assists.

The Warriors will return home to Rocklin to prepare for their home opener next Friday, February 13, against Simpson University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM inside Warrior Arena.
