MORGAN HILL, Calif. - The Warriors men's golf team finished up their third event of the spring season, competing at the RCA Electric Spring Invitational.
The event hosted by Menlo College at Coyote Creek Golf Course proved to be a tough test for the entire field. The competitors found themselves battling windy conditions, with a consistent 10-15 mph breeze and gusts up to 25 mph. As a team, the Warriors battled after a first-round start that found them at the bottom of the leaderboard, posting a second round that was nine shots better than the next team. In the final round, the Warriors continued their rally, moving up one spot.
Individually, the Warriors had a fantastic week with 5 of the 6 players finishing within the top 20. Playing as an individual, Senior Jerah Venkaiya was the highest finisher in T6th at 9 Over Par. Freshman Jacobus Brakkee continued his stellar play on the year, at 10 over par in T7th. Brakkee also shot the tournament low of 67 (-5) in the second round with a notable (-6) 29 back nine that included 7 birdies, one of only two rounds under par during the first day. Braden Armstrong posted strong first and second round scores of 75 and 76, helping him finish in T11. Nick Chavarin bounced back after a tough first round, posting 75 in both the second and third round enroute to a T17 finish. Senior Daniel Johnson posted his second round of the spring in red figures, with a third round of 71 (-1) to finish in T20th. Senior Nicholas Schultz made his first start of the spring season, posting a notable second-round score of 75.
Rounds of 325 (+37), 293 (+5), and 301 (+13) helped the Warriors continue to climb the leaderboard, finishing in fourth out of seven teams. At the top of the team leaderboard, the Menlo College Oaks kept the hardware at home with a nine-shot team victory over Westminster. Individually, Westmont Warrior Fernando Jimenez finished in first place, posting a final round four-under, to win by two.
The Warriors will now look ahead to the Battle of the Desert hosted by CSU San Bernardino at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, California, on March 23rd-24th.
