Jessup Pushes No. 6 BYU in Four-Set Clash at Packed Warrior Arena

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup Men's Volleyball team welcomed the No. 6-ranked Brigham Young University Cougars to Rocklin for a premier Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) matchup. Riding the electric energy of the home crowd, the Warriors showed no fear early, claiming the opening set before ultimately falling to the Cougars in a four-set battle, 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 20-25, 16-25).

The Warriors came out swinging in the first set, matching the intensity of the sixth-ranked team in the nation point-for-point. Jessup found their rhythm offensively, hitting at an impressive .355 clip in the opening frame with 14 kills. Late in the set, tied at 21-21, Jessup capitalized on Cougar miscues and clutch offensive execution to close it out on a 4-2 run, sending Warrior Arena into a frenzy with a 25-23 opening-set victory.

However, BYU's veteran composure proved to be the difference as the match progressed. The Cougars responded in the second set by hitting a blistering .571 as a team, utilizing an 8-4 late run to pull away and take the set 25-16.

Set three saw the Warriors push the Cougars once again. Despite BYU jumping out to a 5-1 lead, Jessup fought back with an 8-2 run to take a 9-7 lead. The two squads traded blows until BYU's offensive depth took over late, securing the set 25-20. The Cougars carried that momentum into the fourth set, securing an early advantage and keeping Jessup at bay to close out the match 25-16.

Leading the way for the Jessup offense was Clement Osahon Jr., who finished the night with a team-high 9 kills to go along with 2 blocks. Owen Henning and Jan Lopuch provided a spark on the pins, both hammering home 7 kills. Lopuch was also a constant threat from the service line, matching a team-high with 2 aces.

Colin Marks orchestrated the attack with 29 assists, while also remaining highly active defensively with 4 digs and 2 blocks. Defensively, the Warriors were anchored by Logan Marks, who recorded a team-high 7 digs to keep several long rallies alive against a physical BYU attack. Jonas Müller also chipped in 6 kills and 2 digs.

With the result, Jessup falls to 6-7 overall (0-4 MPSF), while BYU improves to 15-4 (2-0 MPSF) on the season.

Jessup will look to bounce back as they head out on the road next week for a pair of matches in Southern California against Long Beach State.
