Box Score 2 FRESNO, Calif. – The Warriors traveled to Dan Martin Stadium to conclude their PacWest series against the Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds. Jessup finished the day with 19 total runs and 21 hits across the doubleheader. Despite exploding for 14 runs in a wild opener, the Warriors fell just short, losing game one 15-14 and dropping game two 6-5.
In a tight PacWest race for a postseason berth, the series split moves the Warriors to 26-18 overall and 22-16 in conference play. Jessup currently sits in fifth place in the conference standings, trailing PacWest foes Fresno Pacific, Hawaii Pacific, Concordia, and Point Loma.
The series opener was a three-and-a-half-hour offensive showcase featuring a combined 29 runs and 30 hits. Jessup's bats were on fire, fueled by three home runs and a massive middle-inning surge.
Quinton Hall started the slugfest with a solo shot in the first to get the Warriors on the board. However, the Sunbirds gained momentum, taking a 5-1 lead heading into the fifth inning. Down by four, Tony Otis continued his hot streak at the plate with a grand slam in the fifth to tie the game.
FPU regained the lead with an explosive eight-run fifth inning, bringing the score to 13-5. Refusing to go quietly, Jessup pressured the home dugout by tying the game over the next two innings. This included a huge two-run bomb by Cody Antone (3-for-5, 2 RBIs). Catcher Matt Gonsalvez (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) then drove a ball deep to center to score Otis, shifting the lead back to the Warriors, 14-13.
Unfortunately, the Sunbirds managed a late rally in the ninth inning to secure a walk-off 15-14 victory.
The second game was a scheduled seven-inning contest. Jessup jumped out to an early lead as Landyn Plaut and Tony Otis set the tone immediately, both launching solo home runs in the first inning for a quick 2-0 advantage.
The Fresno Pacific offense came alive in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to take the lead. Jayden Monte provided late-game heroics for Jessup by blasting a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to pull the Warriors within one, but the comeback attempt fell just short. FPU took game two with a final score of 6-5 to secure the series split.
The Warriors return home to McBean Stadium for their final regular-season series on April 24th to take on top-seeded Point Loma. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
