ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Jessup University women's tennis program welcomed Westmont College for a PacWest showdown on Thursday, 7-0.

Prior to the first serve, the program paused to recognize the dedication and contributions of graduating seniors Rylie Maloney and Danielle Akabane. 

The highlight of the day belonged to the No. 1 doubles tandem of Briana Smith and Giselli Reschke, who showcased excellent chemistry to secure an impressive 6-3 triumph over Westmont's top pair. Maloney and Akabane took the court together at No. 2 doubles to celebrate their senior day but dropped a 6-1 decision, allowing the visitors to clinch the doubles point.

Moving into singles competition, Smith carried her strong play to the top of the lineup. She pushed her opponent to the limit in the most competitive flight of the slate, ultimately coming up just short in a tight 6-4, 7-5 battle. At the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, Reschke and Maloney fought hard to steal a few games but were ultimately overpowered by Westmont's depth. Akabane closed out the on-court action for Jessup at No. 4 singles.

Although the final box score favored the opposition, the resolve of the short-handed Warriors and the celebration of Maloney and Akabane defined the home stand. Jessup will aim to regroup as they hit the road Saturday, April 4th to take on the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds. First serve will be at 1:00 PM.
