Box Score ROCKLIN, Calif. - Jessup Women's Soccer was back on Warrior Field for another Saturday matinee, this time against local Division 3 foe UC Santa Cruz. Despite a late penalty kick goal and offensive pressure in the final minutes, the Banana Slugs stayed strong and edged out a 2-1 win over the Warriors.
    
The Jessup offense came out swinging, putting up a shot on goal within the first two minutes. Following that, the game would go relatively quiet for 13 minutes until Santa Cruz's offense banded together, taking the lead on a goal from Emilie Brack in the 16th minute, taking key momentum into the rest of the half. The rest of the first half would be a defensive showdown, as the first half would end with only one goal scored.
    
The second half would be more of the same, seeing neither team score for the first 30 minutes of the second half. That would change in the 75th minute, when UCSC scored a goal giving the Slugs a commanding 2-0 lead with little time left. The Warriors would not go easily, however, answering right back with a goal of their own in the 78th minute from Micaela Romo, her second of the year.
    
The Warriors' efforts continued up until the final minutes, with the Slugs defending a crucial corner kick with less than three minutes in the match that would ultimately be the final blow, ending the match 2-1 in favor of the Slugs.
    
Despite the match's final result, the Warriors put together an impressive showing, out-shooting Santa Cruz 6-5 and keeping them on their toes the entire game up until the final minutes. Their resilience and competitiveness were on display all match long, signaling key progress before the beginning of PacWest play. Their first conference match will take place next Saturday in Santa Barbara when the Warriors face Westmont College.
