LACEY, Wash. – Jessup men's golf finished 10th of 15 teams at the SMU Bishop Invitational at The Home Course, posting a team score of 20-over in a tournament hosted by Saint Martin's on Sept. 25-26. Round 1 was canceled because of unplayable course conditions, so they got a late start on day one to get the second round in and round three in on Saturday. The Warriors improved by 24 strokes between them, going from +22 in Round 2 to a 2-under 286 in Round 3, the fifth-best score of the day among the 15 teams.
Job Damen led Jessup with an even-par total (+3, -3) to tie for ninth individually, while
Braden Armstrong tied for 12th at 1-over (+3, -2).
Jacobus Brakkee and
Paolo Castaneda each tied for 58th at 10-over, and
Nick Chavarin tied for 75th at 17-over. Jessup finished two strokes behind ninth-place Hawaii-Hilo (+18) and three behind eighth-place Montana State-Billings (+17).
CSU San Marcos won the team title at 8-under, followed by Colorado Christian at 1-under, Westminster (UT) at even par, Western Washington at 2-over and Simon Fraser at 5-over. Colorado Christian's Bradley Mulder took the individual title at 4-under. Gavin McCormick and Liam Weaver of CSU San Marcos and Colorado Christian's Lance Christensen Jr. tied for second at 3-under.
The turnaround is quick for the Warriors, who head north to Bellingham, Wash., for the WWU Invitational on Sept. 28-29 at Bellingham Golf and Country Club. Host Western Washington placed three players at even par or better this week, so Jessup will face a tough field. The team then travels to the RCA Electric Invitational at TPC Monterey at Pasadera on Oct. 4-5.
