Warriors Fall to CSUMB on the Road Despite Second-Half Rally

Jessup drops a 3–1 decision at Cardinale Stadium as Hector Huerta provides the second-half breakthrough.

MONTEREY, Calif. - In a hard-fought non-conference matchup on September 3, 2026, at Cardinale Stadium, Jessup men's soccer dropped a 3–1 decision to California State University, Monterey Bay. The Otters established early momentum, but the Warriors continued to compete and generate scoring chances through the second half, bringing their overall record to 0–2–1.

CSUMB dictated play early in the opening 45 minutes, capitalizing on two set-piece build-ups. The Warriors put up four shots in the first period, including a frame-testing attempt by Hamzah Gaphoor, but faced high pressure as the Otters generated nine shots and forced two saves from Warriors goalkeeper Curtis Lynch. The opening stanza was tightly contested in physical terms as well, with Jessup accumulating 11 fouls and a yellow card issued to Lynch.

The Otters pushed their lead to 3–0 just 60 seconds into the second half, but Jessup responded with improved attacking discipline, outshooting CSUMB 7 to 4 in the final period. The Warriors broke through in the 67th minute when Hector Huerta struck a goal off an assist from Kevin Chulu to trim the deficit. Jessup gained a man advantage in the 72nd minute following a red card ejection.

Statistically, CSUMB held a slight edge in total shots (13–11) and earned eight corner kicks compared to Jessup's four. For the Warriors, Hector Huerta finished with the team's lone goal, supported by Kevin Chulu's assist. Goalkeeper Lynch for Jessup registered three saves across 90 minutes of action.

Looking ahead, Jessup returns home to Warrior Field in Rocklin, California, to host Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The Warriors will look to bounce back on their home turf as non-conference action continues.
