Building Momentum: Jessup Men’s Soccer Targets Growth and Redemption Ahead of Fall Slate

With impactful new additions and critical conference rematches on the horizon, the Warriors look to leverage last season’s lessons into standout victories.

08/26/26

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup University Warriors Men's Soccer team opens its season at Warrior Field against Cal State San Marcos on August 27, kicking off a nine-match non-conference slate. Coming off a 2025 campaign where the squad posted a 2-11-4 overall record, the Warriors look to build on early defensive results last season—including a 0–0 draw against Cal Poly Humboldt and a 1–0 victory over Simpson University. Head coach Greg Lazaga noted that the coaching staff has seen significant dedication throughout the preseason training sessions, emphasizing that the players have shown the focus needed to translate the lessons from last year as an opportunity for early-season growth.

This season's schedule features several high-priority redemption matchups where the Warriors are hungry to flip previous outcomes. After a thrilling, high-scoring 4–3 battle against Menlo College last year, Jessup gets an immediate chance at home on September 10 to tilt the momentum in their favor. Tightly contested matches from last season—such as a narrow 1–0 setback to CSU Monterey Bay and a hard-fought 4–2 contest against Dominican University—highlight clear areas for growth that the team is eager to address. The Warriors will get two shots at Dominican this year, starting in Rocklin before heading to San Rafael for the regular-season finale on October 31. Coach Lazaga remarked that the group views every conference rematch as a golden opportunity to prove their maturation, emphasizing that the squad's primary focus is executing under pressure and closing out tight games.

With defensive flashes already proven—highlighted by clean-sheet performances against Cal Poly Humboldt and UC Santa Cruz last fall—Jessup possesses a sturdy foundation to build upon as they face both in non-conference matchups again this season.

The roster gains proven experience through key junior transfers, including goalkeeper Eduardo Enriquez (Cerritos College) to bolster the back line, alongside dynamic attack-minded additions like Emmanuel Silvera and Hamzah Gaphoor (both from Chabot College), Brian Ramirez (Cosumnes River College), and Brandon Acevedo (Fullerton College). Additionally, local true freshmen such as defender Mathew Daniel (Antelope) and midfielder Kamden Sims (Rocklin) bring fresh energy directly into the program.

Coach Lazaga added that integrating these talented newcomers has elevated training intensity, and the overarching goal is for the entire squad to play with confidence, represent the university with pride, and make an undeniable statement in conference play.
