Jessup Athletics earns Champions of Character Gold Award

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The NAIA announced the180 institutions who earned the Champions of Character Five-Star Institution Award Wednesday afternoon with the Jessup Warriors clinching a spot in the top 63 institutions that earned Gold status in the league.

"The core values of the NAIA align with our core values as an institution and an athletic department," Athletic Director Lance Von Vogt said. "It is extremely important that Jessup as a Christ-centered place of higher education represents the core values of our governing body well. To be recognized at the highest level is a credit to our student-athletes, coaches, and athletic administrative staff."

Institutions are measured by the NAIA Live 5 standards; character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Points are awarded based on student-athlete grade point averages, in-competition character and success throughout the 2018-19 academic year.

This past season the Warriors broke records in every category with a career-high 37 individual scholar-athletes and 11 scholar teams totaling a record-breaking 3.1 GPA as a department. On the field of competition, we had a national champion, a conference champion and 6 teams make a national appearance.

Von Vogt went on to speak to the character of the Warriors, "The heart of our athletic department is so strong and caring, this is just the beginning of our eventual impact on our campus and in our community. Our Jessup Athletic future is extremely bright and we are grateful to God for the opportunity to represent His great university. "

The Warriors were one of eight Golden State Athletic Conference members to earn Champions of Character status, six of which they were ranked gold status with Westmont, Vanguard, San Diego Christian, Life Pacific and Menlo College.
