BELMONT, Calif. – After a string of home wins over the past week, the William Jessup Lady Warriors soccer team hit the road on Thursday as they took on a tough opponent in the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts for an exhibition game. A third consecutive win was not in the cards for Jessup, as the Argonauts sent them home with a 6-1 loss.
"Today was a very big learning experience for our team," said head coach Rachel Constantini. "We were able to apply changes at halftime and come out much stronger. We will continue to work on linking the two 45-minute halves together to make a complete, successful game."
Notre Dame de Namur started their scoring early on, as they put three goals on the board in just the first 20-minutes of the match. The first goal of the day came off of a rebound attempt of a previous shot, with the second goal being rocketed in from over 25 yards out.
The Argonauts would add their fourth goal of the day in the 25th minute of play, making their lead sit now at 4-0. In the 37th minute of play Thursday, Jessup finally got themselves on the board as freshman Victoria Kiani (Castro Valley, CA) found the back of the net for Jessup's lone strike of the day.
Jessup's defense would allow two more late goals in the match, with one coming in the 81st minute of play, and the final strike coming just under three minutes later. In total, the Warriors were outshot 30-6 in the loss.
"The girls kept their heads up in spite of the unfortunate score line," added Constantini. "I was very happy with their determination in the second half."
The Warriors season will continue on Monday September 19, when they hit the road to take on UC Merced. That game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., and will be Jessup's final match before the conference season gets underway.
