PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Warriors were wheels up to their final pair of conference matchups of the regular season facing Arizona Christian for a late kickoff Thursday night. The Firestorm jumped ahead first and a deflected Warrior shot would even the game, but the home team would have the final goal before the half to decide the 2-1 fait in ACU's favor.
The Warriors attacked early in the contest with five shots in the first ten minutes to the Firestorm's one, both teams having ample opportunities offensively but defense reigning supreme on both ends.
It would be the 18th minute that the home team would take the 1-0 advantage with a corner-kick conversion for the Firestorm. But nearly ten minutes later,
Madison Leonhardt would take the open shot, blocked by Arizona Christian's goalie and the deflected in off a red uniform for the own goal and even score, 1-1, in the 29th minute.
In the 33rd minute, the Firestorm would score what would be the game-winning goal as the Warriors headed into the break down 2-1, but leading the shots column 12 to the Firestorm's 10.
The second half would remain scoreless as the shots column was nearly even with ACU edging out the Warriors 7 to 6, but neither team would find the back of the net as the first half score became final with the Firestorm taking the 2-1 victory.
Head coach
Rachel Constantini reflected on the competitive match, "It was a great battle against ACU. We had excellent opportunities in front of goal and phenomenal work rate, especially in the second half. Unfortunately, we weren't able to convert our chances. We're excited to have another opportunity to earn a W during our time in Arizona."
The Warriors will rest on Friday before taking on their new conference opponent in Ottawa University on Saturday with kick-off slated for 10 am.
