Myles Corey's 31 Points Leads Jessup to Win Number One, Beating No. 15 College of Idaho

Jessup snap COI's 27 game winning streak vs. NAIA opponents; Warriors to take on no. 7 ranked Lewis-Clark State on Monday

CALDWELL, Idaho - After a thrilling game that needed five extra minutes Friday afternoon, the Warriors and Yotes took the court once again for part two of a back-to-back meeting. Going to the final seconds yet again, the Warriors tasted victory on Saturday, winning 68-64.

Entering Saturday's contest, The College of Idaho had not lost at home in over 14 months and were riding an impressive 27 game win streak against NAIA teams. Jessup's victory brings an end to both streaks held by the nation's 15th ranked team.

"This team is mentally tough; they're built for this," said Head Coach Lance Von Vogt, who believes his team can win any game they play.

"This is the toughest team we've had, I've said that before, and they've proven it every time out. We had to find our legs against Fresno State, but outside of that one contest to open the season, these guys have proven that they will respond."

The action picked right up where it left off yesterday, as both sides traded basket-for-basket in the early going. Entering the game's first stoppage of play nine minutes in, the scoreboard showed an even tally at 11-11.

It was freshman Myles Corey who stole the show for Jessup in the early going. The young guard connected on three attempts from long range in the opening frame, entering the locker room leading all players with 13 points.

Corey's day was only getting started.

Even with the spectacular play of their freshman, the Warriors were not without a few hiccups. Shooting just 1-of-6 from the line in the opening half, Jessup allowed the Yotes to charge out to a 13-4 run, eventually pushing their lead to ten. The Warriors regrouped when it mattered most, closing the half on an 8-0 charge of their own to enter the break down two.

The run progressed to 15-2, putting Jessup ahead by three as Jessup opened the second half red hot before COI eventually settled down to even the game with roughly 16 minutes to play.

Over the next ten minutes of basketball, neither team was able to pull away. The Yotes gained a five-point advantage near the 13-minute mark, but Corey's back-to-back 3-pointers put the Warriors back on top to set up another stretch of back and forth scoring.

The score stayed within three points for the majority of the game's final ten minutes of play.

Jessup stayed in the game due in large part to the spectacular offensive output of Corey. Starting the half perfect from the field, the freshman finally missed a field goal attempt with just six minutes remaining.

Corey closed out the game with a stellar 31 points on 7-of-11 shooting from distance; just two made 3-pointers shy of Jessup's single-game record.

"At a certain point in the game, it became a heat check," Von Vogt added on the hot hand of his freshman guard. "He was feeling it, and you always want to feed the hot hand. But this was a team win.

"That shows you the potential we have as a program…Myles has the ceiling to be an All-Conference and All-American guard, and he's showing that as a freshman."

Leading by two with 40 seconds remaining, Jessup ran an offensive play to use as much time as possible. A shot as the shot clock sounded hit front iron, and an offensive rebound forced the Yotes to intentionally foul and close out a victory for the Warriors.

Senior Tarren Storey-Way produced a double-double to aid his team's winning result, totaling 12 points to pair with 14 rebounds. Jayden DeJoseph brought down nine boards.

For the Yotes, once again, Ricardo Time led in scoring, this time with 14 points. Paul Wilson added ten off the bench.

The Warriors will not have to travel for their next game, as after a Sunday off to rest, Jessup returns to the court in Caldwell to take on (7) Lewis-Clark State College. Taking place on a neutral court at The College of Idaho, tipoff Monday is scheduled for noon PST.
