STUNT Wrap Up Their Inaugural Season with a Trio of Home Games

Warriors compete against Vanguard, Concordia-Irvine, and the reigning National Champion California Baptist

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warriors welcomed three schools to Warrior Arena this weekend as the 2021 season came to a close on Saturday. Starting with a game Friday night against Concordia-Irvine and ending with a contest against the reigning National Champions, Jessup wraps up the first season in program history.

After the action was done Saturday, Head Coach Alexis Welch reflected on the goals for the Warriors this weekend.

"Our goal for this weekend was to be able to cleanly execute the lower level routines and put new higher-level routines on the floor. We were able to hit both Partner Stunt six and Pyramid six multiple times this weekend – a huge accomplishment that we've been working hard over the last few months for."

Starting the weekend of STUNT on Friday night, the Warriors welcomed the Eagles of Concordia-Irvine to Warrior Arena. It was the second meeting of the season between the two schools, as the Eagles took the game 19-2.

Jessup got back to action Saturday morning, beginning the day with a match against Vanguard. The Lions swept the first quarter to take a 4-0 lead. As the game moved into quarter two, pyramids and tosses, the Warriors nabbed their first point of the day as the two sides split round four.

Vanguard would take all four points in the third quarter, moving to the fourth quarter and team routines. Jessup took a point in round two, but the Lions would ultimately win the game by a 19-2 final.

The day proceeded with two neutral site games, as Concordia would drop back-to-back matches against Vanguard and California Baptist.

To end the day, Jessup squared off with the Lancers of CBU. The Lancers proved to be a great sign of what Jessup hopes to become as they enter the 2021 season riding a streak of seven-consecutive National Championships.

CBU took a 3-0 lead following partner stunts in the first quarter, followed by a 4-0 showing in pyramids and tosses. Even with a large lead in hand throughout the game, the Lancers showed great signs of sportsmanship, cheering on the first-year Warriors as they worked to lock in their routines against the formidable opponent.

The Lancers again took all the points in jumps and tumbling, followed by team routine, as Jessup dropped the final game of the season 20-0.

Welch added that she was proud of her team for stepping up to the challenge this weekend, stating, "Over the last few weeks, we have had a few key players out due to injuries. This team has stepped up and was able to fill in those spots with little practice and was able to perform and hit those higher-level routines!

"While we might not have won the point for those routines, I am so proud of those athletes for stepping up, and it truly shows the strength and determination of the athletes in this program to be the best they can be!"

For the first-year program, led by an experienced coach in Welch, focus shifts on the next season as the Warriors will get back to work in building and growing the program.
