Box Score 2 VISTA, Calif. - After battling the GSAC's top team and No. 12 nationally-ranked San Diego Christian on Friday, women's tennis traveled to Vista for a doubleheader against the University of Saint Katherine. Against the second-best team in the GSAC by record, Jessup secured their first singles win of the season.
Match One: SK 6, Jessup 1
The day opened with doubles play as
Aysha Hayes, and
McKenzie Hawkins dropped their set 6-1.
Ryanda Guerrero and
Karen Ramos-Paglino nearly pulled out a victory in their set but fell 5-4.
In singles play,
Juliette Caughey prevailed 6-0, 6-4, securing her first win all-time and Jessup's first singles win of the season. Hayes dropped her sets 6-0, 6-2, Hawkins fell 6-0, 6-0, Guerrero lost 6-1, 6-1, and Ramos-Paglino turned in a strong effort but went down 6-2, 6-4.
Match Two: SK 4, Jessup 0
Guerrero and Ramos-Paglino continued their strong doubles play in the back half of the doubleheader as their set finished in a 3-3 tie. Hayes and Hawkins fell 6-0 in their doubles set.
Multiple sets in singles play went unfinished as Caughey led 6-2, 3-1, Hayes trailed 6-2, 3-0, and Guerrero found herself down 6-5. Hawkins dropped her singles sets 6-0, 6-0, and Ramos-Paglino lost 6-1, 6-0.
The Warriors will return to action for Senior Day on Friday, April 9, as they play host to Hope International. The action is scheduled to begin at 1 pm.
