MARYSVILLE, Calif. – A week removed from winning the Golden State Athletic Conference in Santa Barbara, two Warriors returned to the track on Saturday for a last chance at qualifying for the NAIA National Championship later this month.
After earning all-conference honors with her second-place finish at the conference championship a week ago, senior
Rachel Travis looked to improve on her vault of 3.35m. Travis did just that, vaulting a height of 3.57m, a new personal record for her.
The vault is a personal record and meets the NAIA qualifying standard for the National Championship later this month in Alabama. Travis will join six other Warriors who have previously qualified in different events.
Also competing Saturday was thrower
Michelle Flint. Flint was coming off a great weekend in Santa Barbara, winning two events and taking all-conference in a third.
Flint competed Saturday in two events, shot put and discus. Her shot put distance of 12.54m was 0.10m off the personal record she set a week ago, and her discus throw of 40.68 was 0.10m off the GSAC winning throw she had a week ago.
Unfortunately, neither throw for Flint met the qualifying mark needed for a National Championship bid.
In addition to Travis, already qualified for nationals for Jessup is
Kyla Danielson (100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x400m relay),
Lauren Smith (4x400m relay),
Alexis Jones (4x400m relay),
Rebecca Hardy (4x400m relay),
Bailey Cossentine (marathon), and
Alec Richmond (decathlon).
The 2021 NAIA Track and Field National Championship will occur May 26 – 28 from Gulf Shores, Alabama.
