San Miguel Sweeps Jumps as Women Take Second at Aggie Open

DAVIS, Calif. — Jessup University track and field delivered a stellar afternoon at the Aggie Open on Saturday. Showcasing depth across the board, the Jessup women secured a highly impressive second-place overall team finish.

The mid-distance crew delivered strong results for the Warriors, highlighted by Mary Stuart in the women's 800m run. Stuart crossed the finish line in a blistering 2:19.63, leading the pack for Jessup. She was followed closely by Madison Sutton, who clocked a solid 2:25.96.

On the men's side, Rogelio San Miguel was untouchable in the jumps, claiming a pair of individual titles. San Miguel took first place in the high jump after clearing 1.91m and followed it up with a victory in the triple jump with a mark of 12.91m. Aurora Osburn also had a standout day in the field for the women, securing third place in the triple jump (10.80m). Osburn additionally placed fifth in the long jump (4.87m), just behind teammate Karsyn Leikauf who took fourth (4.42m).

The hurdles and short sprints proved to be major scoring areas for the Warriors. Erica Waseq captured a pair of third-place finishes, crossing the line in 15.18 in the 100m hurdles and 12.66 in the 100m dash. Joining her in the 100m dash were Kimora Hill-Brown (fifth, 13.26) and Hope Garten (seventh, 14.18). Leikauf (17.91) and Kayla Carpenter (19.96) also placed in the top eight of the 100m hurdles. Carpenter showcased her versatility by adding an eighth-place finish in the 200m dash (27.64), just behind Jocelyn Pedretti who took seventh (27.21).

Jessup's throwers were heavily relied upon and showcased immense durability throughout the afternoon. Shiloh Vallejos led the women's group by competing in four different events, taking third in the javelin (27.04m), fifth in both the hammer throw (31.74m) and shot put (12.13m), and seventh in the discus (23.33m). Pedretti delivered a huge podium finish of her own, placing third in the discus with a mark of 38.16m. Carpenter added to the tally with a fourth-place javelin throw of 26.58m. For the men, Lucas Patterson was a consistent force, placing fifth in the discus (37.30m), sixth in the hammer throw (29.94m), and seventh in the shot put (10.80m).

In the distance events, Angela Gladysh turned in a gritty performance in the 5000m run, earning a third-place podium finish with a time of 18:06.03. Juliet David joined her in the 5000m, placing ninth (20:31.97). Travis Brown represented the Warriors in a massive 1500m field, finishing 17th with a time of 4:33.11.

In the men's sprints and mid-distance, Antonio Leal displayed impressive range, finishing 12th in the 200m dash (23.63) and stepping up in the 800m run (2:06.89). Kyjon Hughes sprinted to a 15th-place finish in the 100m dash (12.02), while Ephraim Schmidt (54.38) and Oscar Duncan (55.53) placed 11th and 13th respectively in the 400m dash.

With a successful showing in the books and a runner-up team finish for the women, Jessup will look to carry this momentum onto the track next week as they prepare for the West Coast Relays on March 28th.
