Warriors compete in the first tournament under coach Isaac Sanchez; Season continues in two weeks at the TMU Dutch Classic

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The William Jessup men's and women's golf teams officially began their season this week as they traveled to Arizona to participate in the OUAZ Fall Invitational.

After his first tournament leading the Jessup Golf program, coach Isaac Sanchez first praised the hosts. "It was great to travel and compete at the Sterling Grove Country Club in Surprise, AZ." Sanchez added, "Coach Tina Barret and her staff from Ottawa hosted a great tournament."

As far as his own team, Sanchez said, "I'm very happy with how both teams competed. The results were not what we were looking for, but I'm proud and pleased with how the team represented Jessup and themselves with grace and humility."

On the women's side, the team shot a combined two-round score of 720 (+144) and ended in sixth place overall out of eight teams. While their placement stayed the same after both days, the team improved their stroke total by two on the second day.

Leading the Warriors over the two days on the course was Gurman Kaur-Knight, as she shot 154 (+10), improving her scorecard by two strokes on the second day. The improvement from Kaur-Knight bumped her up two spots from the first day as she finished tied for fourth.

Macy Anderson ended her two-rounds shooting a 183, and in her second round, she finished nine strokes ahead of her round one outing. Clarissa Zulueta shot a 191, Mackinzie Uribe was at 195, and Sydney Chance finished with a 204 and eight-stroke improvement in round two.

On the men's side, after having play suspended on day one due to darkness, the Warriors wrapped up the final two rounds finishing thirteenth of fourteen. The team shot a combined 988 (+124) over three rounds, and in the final two rounds, they were able to outshoot their first round by nine and eight strokes, respectively.

Dominic Salamone posted the top team performance at 240 (+24) and had his best round to close out the tournament with a 77 in round three, finishing tied for thirty-ninth. A few spots behind Salamone, Karson Heeter also had his best round at the end, finishing round three with a 77.

Drake Kovaly shot 250, Rex Rollins ended with a 256, and Juan Crespo finished at 272.

Coach Sanchez noted of his team that, "They are excited to get back home and continue working hard to improve. As their coach, I wouldn't ask for anything more."

Jessup Golf will be back on the green on October 11 – 12 as they are set to play in the TMU Dutch Classic in Solvang, California, at the Alisal Ranch Golf Club.
