ROCKLIN, Calif. – What a weekend it was for Jessup Volleyball, as they went on the road and picked up two important conference victories. The good news continues to roll in on Monday, as Marina Gonzalez has been voted the GSAC Attacker of the Week.
 
Head coach Tiger Shelton has been singing Gonzalez's praises all season, noting earlier, "it really helps to have someone like Marina on the team who's like, you know, a fifth-year senior who helps make things work."
 
Gonzalez has consistently sat at the top as Jessup's leading attacker this season, but over the weekend, she also filled a hole on the defensive side with 41 digs. It began on Friday with a season-high 24 digs against Hope International, followed by her second-highest total of the season with 17 digs against Life Pacific.
 
On top of her dig numbers, Gonzalez also added 24 kills over the weekend.
 
Gonzalez's seven kills came on a .118 hitting percentage Friday night as the Warriors swept Hope International in Fullerton. Twenty-four hours later, Gonzalez turned it up a notch with a season-high 17 kills in Jessup's 3-1 victory against Life Pacific.
 
It's the third time this season Jessup Volleyball has earned a GSAC Player of the Week nod. Gonzalez joins teammates Lauren Toon (Defender of the Week, August 29) and Mallory Pazin (Setter of the Week, September 12).
 
The two wins for the Warriors not only put them back in the playoff picture, but they also came against two schools who had previously taken down Jessup at home inside Warrior Arena.
 
Jessup now sits at .500 (8-8) on the season overall. Within the GSAC, Jessup sits at 5-5, placing them in a tie with Menlo College for fifth place.
 
The Warriors will be in action this weekend when they host San Diego Christian and Vanguard. Jessup took down both schools earlier in the year to start the GSAC season.
