Taylor Tarble Voted GSAC Defender of the Week

Tarble totaled nine total blocks last week, including seven against SDCC; Her 0.92 blocks/set is fourth best in the GSAC

ROCKLIN, Calif. – After another perfect week on the court, another Jessup Volleyball student-athlete is being recognized by the Golden State Athletic Conference. Backed by her dominating performance at the net, Taylor Tarble has been voted GSAC Defender of the Week.

Tarble becomes the fourth Jessup player to earn conference player of the week honors this season. She joins Lauren Toon (Defender of the Week, Aug. 29), Mallory Pazin (Setter of the Week, Sep. 12), and Marina Gonzalez (Attacker of the Week, Oct. 10).

Head coach Tiger Shelton was elated to hear the news. On Tarble, he noted, "There's nobody more deserving than Taylor Tarble. Honestly, she's going on the possibility of this record where she has started every single game in five straight years. And she works hard. She's never complained. She always goes out and gives her best, and she deserves this."

The Warriors went a perfect 2-0 last week, sweeping San Diego Christian and No. 21 Vanguard to increase Jessup's win streak to five.

In Friday's 3-0 win over San Diego Christian, Tarble totaled a season-high seven total blocks, including four in the second set alone. Tarble was on fire at the net, registering a block on three of four plays, forcing SDCC to use a timeout.

Less than 24 hours later, taking on a nationally ranked team in Vanguard, Tarble added two more blocks as the Warriors again won 3-0.

Tarble is averaging 0.92 blocks per set in 18 matches this season, the fourth-most in the GSAC. That percentage puts her on pace for a new career high. She also leads the Warriors with 54 total blocks this season.

After Friday night's win, Shelton offered some thoughts on Tarble, stating, "Taylor is a machine. She's literally close to 5-8, and she's a middle blocker, which makes her the shortest middle blocker in the conference. And yet she can flat-out fly."

Jessup, now 7-5 in the GSAC, has a big week ahead of this as they will take on Menlo College twice this week. The Warriors and Oaks are currently tied for fifth in the conference standings.

Menlo will visit Warrior Arena on Thursday at 5 p.m.
