SURPRISE, Ariz. – After the second round halted midway through Monday, the 2022 OUAZ Fall Invitational wrapped up on Tuesday with a 27-hole finish. Led by another strong day from one of Jessup's newcomers, the Warriors head home with one individual top-ten finish.
The action from Sterling Grove Golf and Country Club came to a stop midway through round two yesterday due to high winds and rain in Arizona. Players marked their balls and called it a night, setting up an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday to wrap up the second and third rounds.
Freshman
Jessica Burdick stole the show for the Warriors on Tuesday. After posting a round of 76 (+4) in her first collegiate round of golf, Burdick followed it up with a final round of 71 (-1), the lone under-par round posted by the Warriors this week.
"Jessica continued to lead the way," said coach
Isaac Sanchez. "A lot of respectable scores. Everyone played better in the second round, so I'm super happy and excited that we are definitely going in the right direction."
Burdick finished at +10 for the tournament, good enough for a tie for fifth.
"We keep showing a lot of signs that we are moving in the right direction," added Sanchez, who continues to note that the program is growing the way he wants. "The transfers and freshmen have done a nice job of stepping in and embracing the competition."
Also in the field for the Jessup women were
Corina Shaw (T26, +31),
Alyvia Mackey (33, +40),
Macy Anderson (41, +65), and
Ayasha Phillips (46, +94).
Over to the men's tournament, two Warriors flirted with a round near par on the final day of the tournament.
Matthew Shimizu, making his Jessup debut this week, finished the tournament with an even-par round of 72. He would finish in 16th.
Sean Collins picked up where he left off on Monday, closing out his second round with a score of 74 (+2).
Ethan Leveque (T41, +17),
Juan Crespo (T45, +14), and
Rex Rollins (49, +24) round out the pack for the Warriors.
Taking the team title in both fields was the Spirit of OUAZ.
Jessup will resume their season on October 11 with the first round of the TMU Danish Classic, hosted by The Master's University.
