Sixteen Warriors Honored as Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes

Women’s Soccer led all fall programs with five scholar-athletes; The award recognizes students with a GPA of 3.50 or higher

ROCKLIN, Calif. — Fall sports have come to an end at Jessup, but the accolades for a select group of student-athletes are still rolling in. In recognition of their work in the classroom, 16 fall student-athletes are being honored as Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

The NAIA national office updated its scholar-athlete format at the conclusion of the 2021-22 academic year. In previous years, all scholar-athletes were announced on NAIA Awards Day in the fall, and now the national office will announce these students at the time of their respective sport's national championship.

In addition to the change in when scholar-athletes are announced, the NAIA added sophomores to the list of student-athletes who are eligible for the award. Previously only juniors and above were eligible for the scholar-athlete distinction.

To qualify for the honor of being a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must: 1) be a sophomore or higher academically, 2) be enrolled at the university for at least 12 months, and 3) hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.

Sports honored by the NAIA in recent weeks included Cross Country, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, and Women's Volleyball.

Women's Soccer led all fall programs with five NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Those students are Adalin Faria (Biology), Clarissa Holguin (Psychology), Hannah Olariu (Psychology), Tess Sando (Aviation), and Natalia Seuthe (Kinesiology).

Two programs, Women's Cross Country and Volleyball, recorded four scholar-athletes. Volleyball's list entailed Cloe Gunter (Liberal Studies), Taylor MacCuish (Kinesiology), Madalyn Miller (Undecided), and Mallory Pazin (Psychology). Haley Borjas (Business), Lacy Ceremony (Kinesiology), Hailey Hopkins (Business), and Azalea Prince (Exercise Science) make up the list from Women's Cross Country.

Three other students were honored for their work in the classroom: Noah Classen (Cross Country, Biology), Logan Dodge (Cross Country, Teaching), and Donovan Carrillo (Men's Soccer, Exercise Science).

The distinction of being a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete is among the highest honors from the NAIA national office, as it pays respect to the hard work done in the classroom.
