ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – Back on the track were the Warriors Saturday, looking to punch some tickets to nationals at the Soka Indoor Qualifier. One Warrior did in fact secure a trip to South Dakota, setting a new school record in the process.
Jessup's
Rachel Travis qualified for the Outdoor National Championship last season in the pole vault. Travis won the pole vault event today, setting a new Jessup record with a mark of 11' 6.5". The mark meets the NAIA A standard, qualifying Travis for nationals.
"That was a huge highlight," said head coach
Jeff Magley on Travis' performance. "Back-to-back national championship appearances for her. Outdoors last year, and now indoors this year. A great thing for her in her senior year to be doing. That was awesome."
Travis becomes the first Jessup athlete to meet the A standard for Indoor Track & Field.
Also with a big day on the track was
Azalea Prince, who set new personal records in the 1000m (3:18.58) and 3000m (10:51.16). Her time in the 3000 was nearly 25 seconds better than her previous top mark in the event.
Also setting personal bests in the 3000m and 1000m was
Alejandra Ceja. It was Ceja's first time running the 1000m, and her time puts her number four all-time for Jessup.
"It was very good to see both of those distance ladies get double PRs," added Magley.
Michelle Flint wrapped up her Indoor Track & Field career with another great showing in the throwing events. Flint took second in the shot put and weight throw. Her weight throw of 14.17m sets a new PR.
Jessica Pedretti also looked good in the event, moving into the Jessup top-five with a weight throw of 11.36m.
Also stamping their name with all-time marks were
Eleanor Kania and
Julissa Casillas in the 200m. Both set new PRs and move into the Warriors' top-ten for the event.
Jayden Jackson was back at it in the pentathlon for the second week in a row. Jackson set new PRs in the long jump (4.67m) and shot put (10.62m).

"It was a very short indoor season with only two meets, but we're looking forward to getting both teams, men and women, together in two weeks. But it was a very solid finish to our indoor season," added Magley.
All Warriors who have qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championship will be in Brookings, South Dakota, March 3 – 5. The event will take place at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
The next meet for the Warriors will be the first official meet of the outdoor season as Jessup will compete in the Chico Multi-Event Classic February 23 – 24 from Chico State.
