Flint Named Field Athlete of the Meet at GSAC Championship

Michelle Flint took first in three of the four throwing events; Jessup men took home seven All-GSAC honors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Day two of the GSAC Championship has come and gone from Westmont College's Thorrington Field. After a day filled with finals, the Warriors leave Southern California with a pair of fourth-place finishes in team scoring.

"We had some really special things happen today," said head coach Jeff Magley. "It was a great overall GSAC Championship. Very competitive, probably the most competitive out of the four seasons that I've been the head coach across the board."

The Jessup men jumped up a spot after day one as they came into Saturday sitting fifth. For the Jessup women, looking to repeat as conference champions, they slid from first to fourth.

"Our goal was to be top three in both the men and women. We knew it was going to be a tough road, and we came up six points short on the women's side. That's heartbreaking to miss your team goal by just six points," added Magley.

In the men's competition, the Warriors collected seven All-GSAC finishes, with Kamil Jones leading the pack with three of his one. Jones also adds a GSAC Championship to his resume, winning the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.28.

Jones placed second in the 100m (11.02) and was a member of the third-place team in the 4x100m relay. Earning All-GSAC in the relay included Cameron Chaddock, Joshua Snyder, and Peter Constant.

Jacob Richmond earns two spots on the All-GSAC team, taking third in the shot put (12.48m) and hammer (34.64m).

In the men's decathlon, after leading through day one, Jessup's Alexander Travis took second with a total of 5,127 points. Andre Matei joins Travis with All-GSAC team with a third-place finish in the 400m (50.48).

"Just a huge meet for him," added Magley on Matei. "This was the best conference championship of his career with us."

Over to the women's competition, after a great day yesterday, Michelle Flint was back in action Saturday, capturing two more GSAC titles. Flint took first in the shot put with a mark of 12.53m and followed it up with a 45.47m mark to win the discus. Alexandra Banducci also earned All-GSAC in the hammer.

Flint's successes earned him the honors of GSAC Athlete of the Meet.

Magley picked out Jayden Jackson as the top newcomer for the Warriors. Jackson scored in six events to help with the Jessup team's success. A newcomer from a season ago, Alexis Jones, earned All-GSAC in the 400m (59.38), giving her three for the weekend to pair with finishes in the long jump and triple jump.

In a final message, Magley offered praise to his senior class. "I want to give a huge thank you to our seniors. We had a great group of seniors this year. Some of them have been with us for more than four years and have provided huge contributions to our program throughout the years with us. We are excited for them for graduation tomorrow. We're excited to recognize them at our banquet on Sunday."
