ROCKLIN, Calif. – Race day returned to Rocklin on Saturday as the Warriors hosted the second running of the Jessup Invitational. On a day with picture-perfect weather, a top-ten finish was in the cards for Jessup as they are now three races into the new season.
The day started with a bang, quite literally, as Jessup President Dr. John Jackson fired the starter's pistol to mark the start of Saturday's first race.
First on the course Saturday was the men's 8K, and leading the way for the Warriors was Rocklin native
Logan Dodge. With a large group of supporters in attendance from the Whitney HS cross country team, Dodge crossed the finish line at 29:54, good enough for a 15th-place finish.
Rounding out the pack of Warriors in the men's race was
Jonathan Conklin (31:16),
Zachary Heberlien (31:36),
Josh Spiva (31:37),
Noah Classen (31:50),
Travis Brown (32:42), and
Ethan Loomis (33:53).
Over to the women's 6k, once again leading the pack of Warriors was
Azalea Prince. Finishing with the top time on the team for the third race this season, Prince came in 8th place with a time of 26:08.
Others in the field Saturday included
Haley Borjas (27:17),
Elizabeth Shykowski (27:30),
Lacy Ceremony (28:18),
Vivianna Gardea (29:47), and
Hailey Hopkins (32:35).
The field included runners from four other NAIA schools, Cal Maritime, Oregon Tech, Simpson, and UC Merced. From the NCAA ranks, Sonoma State ran in the women's race, while the UC Davis XC & Track Club ran as well.
Ethan Brooks of UC Davis posted the top time in the men's race. The women's race was won by Elizette Ysais of UC Merced. The winning teams in the second Jessup Invitational were Oregon Tech (men) and UC Merced (women).
With three races complete, Jessup now looks forward to the SF State Invitational on October 7. Still to come are two additional races right here in Rocklin, as the Warrior Invitational returns on October 22, and the 2022 GSAC Championship takes place at Jessup on November 5.
