Women's Tennis Adds Three Names Ahead of the 2023 Season

Tennis enters the second season under coach Chris Tolson; The Warriors officially start the season on February 10

ROCKLIN, Calif. – A new season for Jessup Tennis is bound to begin in the coming days, as the Warriors prepare for their second season under coach Chris Tolson. With a slate of exhibitions and scrimmages ahead, three newcomers on the women's side are getting ready to make their debuts.

The women's program adds three players for the 2023 season, all incoming freshmen, as they look to build off of a season that saw the program win its first GSAC Tournament match in 2022.

JESSICA HOLBEA | DUBLIN, CALIF. | DUBLIN HS

Coming to the Warriors from Dublin, Calif. is Jessica Holbea. At Dublin HS, Holbea played four seasons of varsity tennis where she earned the TV30 Athlete of the Week Award. Her team won the EBAL Championship in 2020, and finished as finalists in 2021 and 2022.

Holbea is studying Kinesiology at Jessup and hopes to turn that into a career in occupational therapy. Holbea says she chose Jessup because "it is a small Christian school and had everything I was looking for in a school and area." In her spare time, Holbea enjoys weightlifting, watching movies, and crafts.

ISABELLE RIETZ | BORAS, SWEDEN | SVEN ERIKSSON

Coming to Jessup from Sweden is international student Isabelle Rietz. Rietz did not compete on her high school tennis team. She will be making her school debut when the Warriors start their season officially on February 10.

Rietz is studying Digital Communications & Design here at Jessup, with career aspirations of the marketing industry. In her free time, Rietz enjoys baking, hanging out with friends, traveling, and walking her dog. She chose Jessup because "I got the opportunity to play sports in the United States."

GRACE SEPE | CARMICHAEL, CALIF. | MERAKI HS

Sacramento native Grace Sepe comes to the Warriors after recently attending Meraki HS. During her high school career, Sepe was a team captain and was selected to the All-League team her senior season. Her team was the first to qualify for the section championship in doubles play in six years.

Sepe is a Biology major and hopes to work with animals one day. Sepe says she volunteers at an animal rescue, and loves being with her dogs and fish. When asked why she chose Jessup, Sepe added, "When I thought I couldn't afford it, God provided the tennis scholarship for me to come to Jessup."

The three newcomers and their teammates took part in their first scrimmage of the spring on Friday, and they will be back at it with an exhibition Saturday at CSU Northridge. The season officially begins on February 10 when Jessup visits Dominican University (CA) in San Rafael.

Jessup will also compete twice in scrimmages next week.
