ROCKLIN, Calif. – Amongst a sea of pink, the Warriors returned to their home court on Friday as the GSAC season resumed against Hope International. With Jessup donning their pink jerseys for the first time this season, the Warriors gave their fans a sweep on Dig Pink night.
Friday was Jessup's annual Breast Cancer Awareness match. Members of Relay For Life were in attendance collecting donations for breast cancer research. Warrior Arena showed its spirit with pink posters and decorations throughout, along with a packed crowd of pink shirts.
The victory secures a season sweep of Hope International and moves the Warriors to 11-5 overall on the season. Now 7-3 in GSAC action, the Warriors remain in the hunt for a first-round bye in the 2023 GSAC Tournament.
Jessup jumped out to an early lead Friday night thanks to a 25-19 victory in the first set. A victory in set two seemed to be coming easy, but HIU would not let up, claiming seven straight points to turn what was a 14-7 lead into a 14-14 tie.
The Warriors bounced back from that HIU run to produce an 11-2 run of their own, giving them a decisive 25-16 victory.
Now leading the match 2-0, the stage was set for the Warriors to claim their second sweep in a row, and the opportunity was not wasted. Jessup fought off another HIU run to steal the set 25-17, pushing the Warriors' win streak to four.
The Warriors were led by the reigning GSAC Attacker of the Week,
Paulina Harris, who totaled ten kills in the victory. Harris did so while hitting .348.
Madalyn Miller ended the match right behind her with nine kills of her own.
Setters
Kenzie Carpenter (18) and
Khaycee Jamias-Cadenas (17) set up the attack as the Warriors recorded 37 assists on 40 kills.
Lauren Toon led the team with 18 digs.
Jessup will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they get their shot at knocking off the unbeaten Lions of Vanguard. Vanguard sits at 10-0 in GSAC play, 20-1 overall, after beating Menlo on Friday night.
