Push for the Postseason Rolls on After a 3-1 Loss in Costa Mesa

Guillen scored Jessup’s lone goal late in the second half; The Warriors will visit Menlo College on Thursday

COSTA MESA, Calif. – With the 2023 GSAC Tournament drawing closer, the Warriors returned to the pitch on Saturday looking to secure three points. With a home playoff game still at large, Jessup leaves their road trip to Vanguard on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat.

Jessup remains on seven points in the GSAC standings, keeping them in a tie with The Master's for fourth place. TMU is currently taking on OUAZ in their penultimate match of the conference season.

"We matched the intensity and physicality for 70 minutes," sad head coach Greg Lazaga. "The first 20 we weren't ready for that and they took it to us. Outside of that 20 minutes we played well. Chances on goal and opportunities going forward."

The Warriors scored one goal in the loss, coming in the 76th minute off the foot of Eduardo Guillen. Guillen's strike was taken just outside the 18-yard box, coming via a Chris Hackney assist.

Jessup's comeback bid was halted in the final 14 minutes as one minute after assisting the goal, Hackney was sent off with his first red card of the season, placing Jessup a man down.

Goalkeeper Gerardo Perez Plata again played all 90 minutes for the Warriors. The senior recorded two saves while allowing three Vanguard goals, two coming in the opening half.

Jessup now shifts their focus to the team atop the GSAC table, the Menlo Oaks, as the Warriors will be in Atherton on Thursday. This will be the second meeting between Jessup and Menlo this season, as the two sides tied on Warrior Field earlier in a non-conference meeting.

Following the trip to Atherton, Jessup will welcome Hope International to Warrior Field for Senior Day on October 28. Tickets are on sale HERE.
