ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warriors were back in action for the first-time post-Thanksgiving as they welcomed the Pacific Union Pioneers to Horton Court. Wrapping up their busiest month of the season, Jessup flirted with the scoring record as they dropped 122 points in a blowout victory.
Jessup's 122-44 victory saw the second-most points scored in a single game by the Warriors. The Warriors also dropped 122 in a 2017 victory over Northwest Indian. The program record of 132 points came in 2018 against West Coast Baptist.
Another milestone was met in the win as
Myles Corey dropped 17 points, moving him past
Cashemin Williams for the second most in program history. Corey now sits 97 points behind Lucas Birchard, who has the most points in the Rocklin era.
Four Warriors ended the night scoring in double-figures, none putting up more than guard
Ty Artis. Artis scored 20 points to pair with a career-high ten boards, giving him his first double-double with the Warriors.
"It's nice to come out here and play as a team and put in a win like this," said Artis in his postgame chat with Dave Rosenthal.
When asked about the Warriors shooting performance, a 61 percent showing from the floor, Artis added, "As we go in practice, I've seen the way that guys shoot it and the way we're able to be confident in each other, even when shots aren't going. I just tell my teammates to just keep getting shots up there, and we're gonna keep believing that it's gonna go in."
Others in double-figures included
Nigel McKay, who scored 19 in his 21 minutes off the bench, and
Cayden McDaniel, who made a splash with 14 points in his collegiate debut.
On McDaniel, Artis added, "He's a great guy. He's from Washington as well. He's one of my favorite people that I've been around. He's gonna be a really good player… He's a big, strong guard, and he's able to shoot the ball as well."
McDaniel connected on 6-of-10 from the field, adding four rebounds and a pair of assists as well.
Jessup dominated the glass on Saturday night, outrebounding the Pioneers 42-17. The Warriors also outscored PUC 56-14 in the paint, 35-5 on the fastbreak, and 36-9 off turnovers.
The Jessup defense also held the Pioneers scoreless on second-chance opportunities.
If there is one area coach
Mark Darnall will want to clean up, it's turnovers, as the Warriors committed 13. But one thing he will want to see more of is the foul count, as the Warriors committed only nine in 40 minutes of basketball.
"We had a little bit more than we wanted, but we were able to pick up when the time was needed," added Artis on the turnovers.
Saturday brings to an end the month of November for the Warriors, who played ten times this month, more than any month on the schedule this year. December will see the Warriors play just four times, with their next game coming on December 1 when they visit future conference rivals Academy of Art.
"It was a lot that we had to be prepared for," said Artis on the busy month of November. "But I feel like we faced it head-on on, and we were able to face adversity."
The Warriors will not be back on Horton Court until December 15, when they welcome Basketball Hall of Famer Gary Payton and the Lincoln Oaklanders.
