Men’s Basketball Falls to Future PacWest Foe in Exhibition

Malik Patton led the Warriors with 16 points on 7-of-8 from the floor; Jessup and Academy of Art will be conference rivals next season

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Warriors were back in action after six days off as they visited a future conference rival, the Academy of Art Urban Knights. Getting an early glimpse against DII competition, the game went the way of Art U with their 95-76 victory.

Friday's game did not count against Jessup's official record, as it was an exhibition on the Warriors' schedule. The game did, however, count for the Urban Knights as they move to 3-3.

Forward Malik Patton led the Warriors with 16 points on 7-of-8 from the floor. Patton also pulled down four rebounds in his 14 minutes of action off the bench.

Three of the five starters for the Warriors closed the game in double-figures, as Aydan Janssan (13), Ja'Maris Blackmon (12), and Ty Artis (12) added to the offense. Jessup saw 31 of their 76 points come from players off the bench.

The Warriors hurt themselves Friday night in the turnover column, as they committed a 2:1 ratio compared to the Urban Knights, as Jessup turned the ball over 26 times as opposed to 13 from their opponents. Art U turned those turnovers into 32 points.

Jessup also lost the rebound battle 41-27. Academy of Art pulled down 22 offensive boards, resulting in 17 second-chance points.

Academy of Art shot 52 percent from the floor, just one percent higher than the Warriors, who shot 51 percent. Isaiah Williams led the way with 25 points for Art U on 9-of-14 shooting.

What awaits the Warriors next is finals week here at Jessup, as students place their full focus on their coursework with winter break just a week away. Once finals wrap up, the Warriors will be back on the road as they visit Southern Oregon University on December 9.

The Warriors will not be back on Horton Court until December 15, when they welcome Basketball Hall of Famer Gary Payton and the Lincoln Oaklanders.
