Big Scoring Night Keeps Jessup Perfect at Home

Jessup scored 96 points to tie the second-most in a game in program history; Glynn scored a career-high 17 points

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup's single-game scoring record, which has stood for just one month and one day, was in jeopardy of being broken again Tuesday night. With an old friend in town leading the Cal Maritime Keelhaulers, the Warriors posted 96 points as they improve to 8-1 on the year.

The record of 100 points was set on November 11 of this year when the Warriors blew past Pacific Union. Jessup looked to be resetting the record book once again, as they sat on 92 points with 4:31 to go, but it was not meant to be as Jessup ended the game scoring just four points in the closing stretches.

Jessup instead settles for a tie for second place, as the old record coming into 2023 was 96 points against Pacific Union in 2017.

It was the reigning GSAC Player of the Week, Andrea Jovicevic, who led the Warriors in scoring. Jovicevic dropped 18 points on 7-of-9 from the floor to pair with seven boards and four assists. The senior guard connected on 3-of-3 from distance, as she improves her GSAC best 3-point percentage to .517.

Another Jessup player stuffing the stat sheet was junior Makaila Glynn. In 18 minutes off the bench, Glynn scored a career-high 17 points as she was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.

Glynn sat down with the voice of the Warriors, Dave Rosenthal, after the game. On her performance, Glynn noted, "I didn't expect myself to even get that much (playing time) tonight. I just wanted to support my teammates."

The junior forward noted that she has been focusing on self-improvement following a difficult stretch after losing her father in April. "I've just been trying to work on myself and be there for my teammates, and just push through the season… I know deep down inside that all I have up here are my teammates. We treat this as a sisterhood, a family like that's all we are here."

Glynn's great night also included her connecting on nine free throws, another career high.

Two other Warriors, Makaila Napoleon (11) and Andheya Aurelio (10), also closed in double-figures. Maila Lepolo and Amari Guiton each contributed nine points.

The Warriors shot 46 percent from the field on Tuesday, adding a 47 percent showing from beyond the arc.

Cal Maritime came into Warrior Arena with a familiar face on their bench, as former Jessup assistant Imhotet Ari Amen-Ra is in his first season leading the Keelhaulers. His squad knocked down ten triples and was led by Alicia Porter, who scored 16 points.

The 8-1 Warriors are now a perfect 6-0 on Horton Court. Jessup will look to make it 7-0 on Saturday when they play their final home game of 2023. On the schedule is the UC Merced Bobcats, a team Jessup took down 84-51 earlier this season.
